How is it legal for HP to deny use of my printer, scanner and the other functions because the printer cartridges are not HP.  This printer was purchased online, if it was known ahead of time I would not have purchased it.   There was no disclaimer regarding this, there is no information on the amazon site indicating this.  I basically have a brand new computer that is unusable because of this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @monbo55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I hear you, nothing’s more frustrating than buying a new printer only to find out it’s picky about its ink! It feels like getting a brand-new phone and realizing it only works with certain chargers.

As HP printers come with built-in security features designed to ensure optimal performance and print quality. These features also help prevent counterfeit or altered cartridges that could damage the printer. This is called Dynamic Security, and while it’s great for protecting your device, it can sometimes cause surprises when using non-HP ink.

Since your printer is new, here’s what you can do to get it working again:
Try reseating the cartridges and restarting the printer.
Check if there’s an option to disable cartridge protection in the printer settings.
If the issue persists, using genuine HP ink will guarantee compatibility and prevent future interruptions.

I totally get that this wasn’t expected, and I appreciate your patience. If you’d like, I can guide you through these steps to get your printer up and running ASAP! Let me know how it goes. 😊
