HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8610 all in one.  It would not connect wireless so I had to connect an ethernet cord; it is also saying the one or more cartridges appear to be damaged but only shows the black.  I have replaced the black cartridge with two brand new cartridges and I continue to get the same error message.  I had an online chat on June 12 with HP instant ink, as I am a member, and she walked me through a number of steps including resetting back to factory settings.

Hi @keepingitreal,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already taken, including replacing the black cartridge and resetting the printer to factory settings, there are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the black cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry for about 10 minutes before reinserting the cartridge.

Update the Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.

Inspect for Obstructions:

  • Make sure there are no obstructions or debris in the cartridge slot.
  • Check for any broken or bent pins in the cartridge slot.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • Since you've already tried two new cartridges, it's unlikely but still possible that both might be faulty. If you have another black cartridge (perhaps from a different batch), try using that one.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Unplug the power cord from the printer while it is still on.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the power source and then back into the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
