Hi @realpommy,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is only printing in a greyish font and not in the intended colors or proper ink levels, there are several potential issues that could be causing this problem. Here’s a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Ink Levels

Check Ink Cartridge Status:

  • On the printer’s control panel or using the HP Smart app, check the ink levels for your cartridges. Low or empty cartridges might cause poor print quality.

Replace Cartridges:

  • If the ink levels are low or the cartridges are old, replace them with new ones.

2. Perform a Printer Head Alignment and Cleaning

Print Head Alignment:

  • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead or similar options. Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print heads.

Print Head Cleaning:

  • Use the printer’s cleaning function to clean the print heads. This option is usually found in Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead.

3. Check Printer Settings

Check Print Settings:

  • Open the document you are trying to print and go to Print settings.
  • Ensure that the print settings are set to print in color (if applicable). Sometimes settings can default to grayscale or black-and-white.

Check Printer Preferences:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  • Right-click on your printer, select Properties or Options, and check the Preferences or Advanced tab to ensure color printing is enabled.

4. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Reinstall Drivers:

  • Uninstall the existing printer drivers from your computer.
  • Reinstall the latest drivers to ensure that you have the most recent and compatible software.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
