HP ENVY 6458e All-in-One Printer

When I print and unselect black and white with a 4x9 special size it comes out black and white. When i do the same option and unselect black and white for a letter size page it comes out in the color i want.

Hi @Courtneylynn1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be some settings or configurations specific to the 4x9 special size that are causing the printer to default to black and white, even when you've deselected that option. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Printer Settings: Make sure that within the printer settings on your computer or the printer's control panel, color printing is selected for the 4x9 special size. Sometimes there can be separate settings for different paper sizes.
  • Driver Update: Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date. Sometimes outdated drivers can cause printing issues or unexpected behavior.
  • Print Preview: Before sending the print job, preview it to see if there are any options related to color settings specific to the 4x9 special size. This might give you insight into why it's defaulting to black and white.
  • Paper Type Selection: Double-check that the paper type selected for the 4x9 special size is compatible with color printing. Some paper types may not support color printing.
  • Printer Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve unexpected printing behavior.

By going through these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the issue and print your 4x9 special size documents in color as intended.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
