HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The last shipment of ink you shipped to me and I received on 09/17/2025. My printer said to replace the Tri-Color cartridge.  So I did.  The error code says "Ink Cartridge Problem:  The following Ink Cartridges(s) must be replaced."  I took it out and tried again. Same error message.  I took it out and put the old cartridge back in.  Said it's empty.  So here I SIT WITH NO TRI-COLOR CARTRIDGE. What do I do with the last one I received on 09/17/2025.

Thank you

Hi @Mondana2024,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP ENVY 5530 is not recognizing the new tri-color cartridge, and now your printer is stuck showing an “Ink Cartridge Problem” error. Let’s go through steps to troubleshoot this issue.

Check Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure the new cartridge you received on 09/17/2025 is the correct HP 63 Tri-Color cartridge for the ENVY 5530.

Check the box for original HP branding, not a third-party cartridge.

Inspect Cartridge for Protective Tape

Remove the cartridge and check if the orange protective tape over the contacts/nozzle has been fully removed.

Even a small piece of tape can prevent the printer from recognizing the cartridge.

Clean Cartridge Contacts

Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the gold contacts on the cartridge.

Also gently wipe the contacts inside the printer where the cartridge sits.

Let them dry completely before reinserting.

Reinstall the Cartridge

Reinsert the cartridge carefully, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

Close the cartridge door and let the printer recognize it.

Perform a Printer Reset

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.

Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

Check for Firmware Update

Outdated firmware can prevent the printer from recognizing new cartridges.

Go to HP Smart → Printer Settings → Update Printer or download the latest firmware from HP’s website.

Try a Different Cartridge (if available)

If possible, test with another new tri-color HP 63 cartridge.

If the printer recognizes the second cartridge, the first cartridge may be defective.

I hope this helps.
