My printer reads, "Cannot print.  Visit hpinstantink.com for information".  I no longer have the ink program and both cartridges are NEW!

The message you're seeing on your HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer typically occurs when the printer is still tied to the HP Instant Ink program, even if you've already canceled the subscription. Here's how to resolve the issue:

 

Steps to Fix the Issue:

Check Printer's Connection to HP Instant Ink:

  • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account and verify that your subscription has been fully canceled.
  • If it's still active, cancel it to prevent any confusion.

Unlink the Printer from HP Instant Ink:

  • On your printer's control panel, go to Settings > HP Instant Ink.
  • Look for an option to Unenroll or Remove the printer from HP Instant Ink. This will remove the printer's dependency on the program.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure the new cartridges you are using are genuine HP cartridges, as the printer may reject non-genuine or refilled cartridges.
  • If you're using Instant Ink cartridges, they will only work with an active subscription, so you'll need to replace them with standard HP cartridges.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
  • This can sometimes clear the message and reset the printer's status.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Reinsert them carefully, ensuring they click into place.
  • Close the access door and check if the error message persists.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer.
  • Download and install any available updates, which might resolve the issue.

Check the Printer's Status via HP Smart:

  • Use the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device to check the printer's status and ink levels.
  • Sometimes, the app can provide more detailed information about any issues.

Factory Reset the Printer (As a Last Resort):

  • If all else fails, you can perform a factory reset on your printer. Be aware that this will erase any custom settings.
  • Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore or Reset and choose the option to reset to factory defaults.
