I have a printer that will not print until I get an instant ink subscription. I have no need for a subscription, I just want my printer to work.

@geozinger, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your toner issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you have replaced the toner cartridge in your printer and it refuses to print, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Reinstall the Cartridge: Ensure that the new toner cartridge is installed correctly. Sometimes, removing and reinstalling the cartridge can resolve the issue.

Check Compatibility: Verify that the new cartridge is compatible with your printer model. Using an incompatible cartridge can cause the printer to refuse the cartridge.

Reset the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer can help it recognize the new cartridge. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Firmware Update: Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates that can improve compatibility with new cartridges. Visit the HP website to check for any available updates for your printer model.

Check for Errors: Look for any error messages on the printer display or computer screen that may indicate what's causing the issue.

Using Ink Without Instant Ink Subscription

HP's Instant Ink subscription is optional, and you can still use your printer without it. Here are steps to ensure your printer works without the subscription:

Disable Instant Ink: If your printer is configured to require Instant Ink and you do not wish to subscribe, make sure the subscription settings are disabled. You can manage this by logging into your HP Instant Ink account and opting out if you were previously enrolled.

Regular Cartridges: Ensure you are using regular HP cartridges that are compatible with your printer and not Instant Ink cartridges.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
