As I see many others have experienced this problem, I am left to try the HP Support Community. My warranty expired (over a year ago!) and suddently I cannot print. It says there is an error with my account, so I have gone to my account numerous times, there is no error other than telling me my printer is offline. My printer says it is connected to my wireless, I have turned off, unplugged and restarted the router, computer and printer at least 2-3 times. I have removed and reconnected my printer to the HP Smart app twice and now it wants me to pay $75 to extend my plan another 2 years. I'm not sure that will resolve the problem, and I resent having to pay to have a (what I believe to be) fully functional printer not work because of a warranty expiration. Trying to connect with an actual person has been impossible. Hoping this message gets me somewhere.

Hi @Lydja75

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s understandably frustrating to face this issue, especially when your printer was working fine before the warranty expired. Let’s work through this step by step to try and resolve the problem without requiring additional payments:

1. Verify Printer Status

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • On the printer’s control panel, check for any error messages or warnings that might indicate the issue.

2. Reconnect the Printer

  • Remove the printer from the HP Smart app:
    • Open the app, select your printer, and choose Remove Printer.
  • Re-add the printer:
    • Click Add Printer and follow the setup instructions to reconnect it.

3. Check HP Account Settings

  • Log in to your HP account at HP Smart.
  • Verify that your printer is listed under your devices.
  • If there’s an error with your account, try removing and re-adding the printer to your account.

4. Disable HP+ or Instant Ink Features

  • If your printer was enrolled in HP+ or Instant Ink, it might require an active subscription to function. You can disable these features:
    • Log in to your HP account and navigate to the Services section.
    • Cancel any subscriptions or disable HP+ features if you no longer wish to use them.

5. Update Printer Firmware

6. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
    • Reconfigure the printer after the reset.

7. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP’s website.
  • Run the tool to diagnose and fix common printer issues.
