OJ8610
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I bought a OJ8610 printer recently and though unused it did not have the setup cartridges. I bought new HP950XL/951XL: cartridges but the printer will not initialize with them, demanding the set up cartridges that I do not have. I need to bypass that roadblock. This printer has no buttons to push except the on/off and the screen offers no options. Urgent.

Sorry, this is the opposite of my problem and does not apply. I have no setup cartridges and I must bypass the requirement for using setup cartridges and go directly to using normal ones. The printer will do NOTHING to skip this, does not connect to USB or wifi apparently as well. NEVER will buy another HP printer given this baloney. Too much.

Sorry, I wrongly understood your problem.  Not for your printer model but you can try this the steps should be the same

Sorry, does not apply. The OJ 8610 has no physical button and the screen offers none, at least until it finishes the initiation process that demands the use of the setup cartridges. Way way too much control at HP. Unbelievable and unacceptable. It protects NOTHING.

It has buttons, they are touch buttons left and from the screen. You might not see them, but they are there, take a look under the angle you will see icons on the screen ( # 2, 5 and 4 ).

Thanks. Still did not solve things. I was able to follow the directions of the second youtube video above that is for when one does not have the setup cartiridges, and now for more than one hour the printer seems to be stuck in Preparing Printer process with a spinner circle above those words.
