HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

I was setting up a new HP smart tank 7005, I had removed all  the sticky paper  and filled the ink tanks. and then powered the machine on so that I could add the new print heads. I added the new print heads and observed two flashing symbols on the display that looked like print heads. I turned the machine off and I could not get it to power on again. I checked the mains plug fuse and it was OK.  Because i could not power on the printer the print heads were inaccessible, when the printer if off the print heads go to the right, under a lip which means I cannot press the blue button to open the print head mechanism. Can anyone suggest a reason for the failure and how I can fix it please.

Hi @gm3suz1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your new HP Smart Tank 7005 stopped powering on during printhead installation, and now you can’t access the printhead carriage because the printer won’t turn back on. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check the Power Source

Make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector or extension cord.

Test the outlet with another device to confirm it’s working.

Inspect the Power Cord and Adapter

Ensure the power cord is firmly connected to both the printer and the wall.

Look for any damage or loose fittings on the cord or adapter.

Perform a Hard Reset

Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Reconnect the cord directly to the wall outlet and try powering on again.

Check for Internal Blockage

If the printer shut down while installing printheads, ensure no packing material or protective tape is still inside.

Sometimes leftover tape or mis‑seated printheads can trigger a fault that prevents startup.

Try a Different Outlet or Cord

If available, test with another compatible HP power cord.

This rules out a faulty cord or adapter.

Observe LED Indicators

When plugging in, check if any lights briefly flash.

If there is no response at all, it points to a power supply or mainboard fault.

Printhead Access Without Power

Unfortunately, the carriage locks under the lip when the printer is off.

It can only be released when the printer powers on, so resolving the power issue is the first priority.

I hope this helps.
