MY 8720 will not let me use my genuine cyan cartiridge that I just installed.  It says it is an older generation.

@Alex1362, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like your HP 8720 printer is having trouble recognizing a newly installed genuine cyan cartridge, labeling it as an "older generation." This issue can sometimes occur due to compatibility problems between the printer firmware and the cartridge generation.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cyan cartridge you have installed is compatible with the HP 8720 printer model. Even genuine cartridges can vary by region or printer models.

Firmware Update: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer. Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve cartridge recognition issues. You can check and update the firmware via the printer's control panel or through the HP Support Assistant.

Reinstall the Cartridge: Remove the cyan cartridge and reinsert it to ensure it is properly installed. Make sure to turn off the printer before doing this, and turn it back on after reinstalling the cartridge.

Reset the Printer: Power off the printer and disconnect it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, and then reconnect the power and turn the printer back on. This reset might help in recognizing the cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
