New cartridge shows blinking color Ink Alert light

HP Recommended

I replaced the color cartridge on my HP DeskJet 2680 and I get an ink alert light and a message on the printer icon that says  check printer for errors. When I take out the new cartridge and put the old one in I do not get the ink alert light and I can print although the colors are faded since it's low in ink.  It makes me think the new cartridge is defective. Any thoughts?

@VanG7 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the New cartridge shows blinking color Ink Alert light.

Please let us know if you are using HP genuine ink cartridges.

Please perform the hard reset and check.

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Please clean the electrical contacts of the ink cartridges and check.

Please try to replace the ink cartridges and check.

If the issue still persists, please contact our phone support and check for the support option. They will help you.
