Hi @CD0041,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is to see an E0 error right after installing new ink, especially when you expect everything to work smoothly. Let’s break this down and fix it:
What Does E0 Mean on HP Envy Printers?
On most HP Envy models, E0 (or sometimes shown as E0 and flashing lights) indicates a cartridge problem:
- The cartridge is not detected, incompatible, or defective.
- Protective tape is still on the cartridge contacts.
- The printer needs a reset after cartridge installation.
Step-by-Step Fix
1. Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure you’re using genuine HP cartridges for your specific Envy model.
- Verify the cartridge number on HP’s official page:
👉 Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support
2. Remove and Inspect Cartridges
- Turn the printer ON.
- Open the cartridge access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
- Remove the cartridges:
- Check for protective tape on the copper contacts; remove it if present.
- Clean contacts gently with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert cartridges until you feel a firm click.
3. Reset the Printer
- With the printer ON, unplug the power cord from the back.
- Unplug from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds.
- Plug back in and power ON.
4. Update Firmware
Sometimes new cartridges require updated firmware: 👉 Official HP® Support
5. Run HP app Diagnostic
Download the HP app and run the troubleshooting tool: 👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
