I installed new ink cartridges and printer ink level show there is no ink. I doubled checked that I am using correct cartridges and reloaded ink cartridges several times to be sure they were accurately installed. I checked to be sure all cords were securely hooked to printer. Any suggestions?

Hi @MaryC71,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’ve taken some thorough initial steps. Here are a few more things you can try.
- Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covering the ink cartridges has been removed. Sometimes, leftover tape can prevent ink from flowing.
- Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the contacts on the ink cartridges and in the printer using a soft, lint-free cloth. Any residue or dirt on these contacts can affect ink detection.
- Perform a Printer Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer’s internal sensors.
- Check for Cartridge Recognition Issues: Some printers have a “Cartridge Alignment” or “Ink Cartridge Setup” option in the settings menu. Try running this utility to help the printer recognize the new cartridges.
- Update Printer Firmware: Visit our HP website to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge detection.
- Try Different Cartridges: If possible, test with another set of new cartridges to rule out the possibility of defective cartridges.
- Printer Diagnostic Tools: Many HP printers come with built-in diagnostic tools. Check the printer’s menu or the HP Smart app for any diagnostic or troubleshooting options.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
