Hi @viguesa1.
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer isn't recognizing the new black ink cartridge, here are several troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:
**1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door. Remove the black ink cartridge and reinsert it, making sure it clicks into place securely.
- Confirm that the cartridge is installed in the correct slot and orientation according to your printer’s instructions.
**2. Inspect the Cartridge
- Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covering the cartridge's contacts has been removed. This tape is often used to protect the ink during shipping.
- Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth. Be careful not to touch the nozzles or get the cartridge wet.
**3. Check Printer Settings
- Some printers require print head alignment after changing cartridges. Check your printer’s settings or software for an alignment option and follow the instructions.
- Use your printer’s software or control panel to check if the printer detects the new cartridge and if the ink levels are accurate.
**4. Perform a Printer Reset
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer’s recognition of the new cartridge.
**5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers
- Visit the HP website and download the latest drivers and firmware for your printer model. Install these updates to ensure compatibility with new cartridges.
- If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the printer drivers from your computer, restart your system, and then reinstall the drivers.
**6. Perform Printer Diagnostics
- Many printers have built-in diagnostic tools or maintenance functions accessible through the printer’s menu or software. Run any available diagnostic tests to check for cartridge issues.
- Try printing a test page or a printer status report to see if the printer can recognize the new cartridge and print correctly.
**7. Check for Firmware Updates
- Check the printer HP website for any firmware updates. Sometimes, firmware updates address issues with cartridge recognition.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
