Hi @Mikebolt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

The "server is busy" error when trying to configure scan-to-email on your HP OfficeJet 9018e printer often occurs due to incorrect email settings or connectivity issues. Follow these steps to resolve the problem:

1. Verify Printer Connectivity

  • Ensure your printer is connected to a stable network with internet access. Test the connection by printing a network status report from the printer settings.

2. Set Up Email Settings Correctly

  • SMTP Server: Use the correct settings for Gmail:
    • SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 587
    • Encryption: STARTTLS or TLS
  • Login Credentials:
    • Use your full Gmail address as the username.
    • Enter the app-specific password (not your regular Gmail password). Create an app password for Gmail if necessary.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware.

4. Test the Configuration

  • Use the printer's Scan-to-Email Setup Wizard to test the connection:
    • Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering your printer's IP address in a browser.
    • Navigate to Scan > Scan to Email and set up or test the configuration.

5. Check Gmail Security Settings

  • Ensure that:
    • Two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled on your Gmail account.
    • App Access for less secure apps is turned off. Instead, use an app-specific password for increased security.

6. Restart Printer and Router

  • Restart your printer and router to clear potential network or DNS issues.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
