HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Hi All,

I have tried every restart measure that there is including a new main control board, and have gotten nowhere with this printer. When plugged in, the HP logo briefly pops appears on the lit up screen (and the power button lights up for a moment), but then the screen goes dark, the power button light goes out and only the icons on the left of the screen light up. As I said at the start, no combination of button pushing, holding or unplugging has done anything.

The carriage that holds the printer cartridges was all the way to the right, locked in position — maybe due to a broken tab in that area that I discovered during disassembly. I freed the carriage so that it is in the center (as it would be when the door is opened for cartridge changing), but the carriage does not move back to the side when the power is on and the door shut.

I closely inspected everything around the area of where the carriage “rests” and found no stripped gears or other faults.

     Any help will be welcomed!

Thanks,

David

Hi @2002sheds,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

First of all I truly appreciate all your efforts and patience in trying to get this issue resolved.

Please try the steps listed below:

Reset the printer without ink cartridges installed.

Clear the error by resetting the printer without the ink cartridges.

Open the cartridge access door or lid.

If the carriage moves to the center of the printer, continue with these steps.

If the carriage does not move to the center of the printer, close the access door or lid. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and power source, wait 60 seconds, and then reconnect the power cord to the printer and a wall outlet. Turn the printer on, and then continue with these steps.

Remove the cartridges.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the power source.

Wait 60 seconds.

Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and the printer.

Note:

HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Turn the printer on.

Reinsert the cartridges, and then close the cartridge access door or lid.

Follow the steps to align the printer, if prompted.
