Office jet 4500 Blurry Black Ink printing with shadow

HP Recommended
G510n
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Test pages print off okay but when printing from word, excel, PDF, etc. blurriness occurs and has gray shadow appearing behind/below blank ink. Color prints fine.

@ndevil44, Welcome to HP Support Community!

To be able to assist you better, I'd like to know the following-

What happens when you make photocopies on the printer?

Could you share the picture of the blurry printed document?

Meanwhile, check the settings before you send the print job. Refer to the document HP Printers - Print Settings Guide (Mac) for help.

ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:

Update printer firmware

Update software on Mac

Try printing.

Keep me posted.

Sorry, I hit send too soon. I made a photocopy of something and it printed fine for black ink only no shadowing. Basically when we print off a document (word, excel, pdf) a letter like the letter R will be in black ink but right behind the R is a gray R that looks like a shadow and makes the print blurry. Below is a print off and you'll see the black ink and right behind it is gray shadow.

Let us try removing and adding the printer using AirPrint drivers-

Remove and add the printer

Click the Apple menu, and then select System Preferences.

Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Click the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then delete the printer.

Select printer and click the minus sign

Click the Plus sign, and then click Add Printer or Scanner.

Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Try to print.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

The solution from HP DID NOT WORK.  Here's how I got around the problem.  I was typing a Word document in Windows 10.  When I got done I went to the HOME tab and highlighted all the text (select all).  Then on the right hand side of the menu I selected the CHANGE STYLES drop down.  (change styles has those two AA colored fonts).  Then selected STYLE SET.  Clicked on WORD 2003.   POOF!   PROBLEM SOLVED.  Save the file.
