I have physically cleared paper jam; turned off and restarted printer several times; removed and returned cartridges; and deleted driver and reinstalled it. I still have cartridge jam message and is inoperable.

Hi @savagegrace

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry this has persisted despite your thorough efforts—you’ve already done a great deal, and I truly appreciate your patience. Let’s now focus on the carriage system itself, which is often the root of this type of error.

If your HP OfficeJet 8210 continues to display a cartridge jam error despite clearing paper and reinstalling drivers, the issue likely lies with the ink carriage path or sensor alignment.

Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help reset the mechanism and restore functionality.

Step-by-step actions to clear a cartridge jam on the HP OfficeJet 8210

Power reset the printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • While unplugged, gently slide the ink carriage left and right to ensure it moves freely.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Inspect the carriage path thoroughly:

  • Open the ink access door.
  • Use a flashlight to check for any small bits of paper, packaging tape, or debris that may be obstructing the carriage.
  • Ensure the carriage can move smoothly from side to side without resistance.

Remove and reseat all cartridges:

  • With the printer powered on, open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove each cartridge one at a time and inspect for ink buildup or misalignment.
  • Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the carriage using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert each cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Check for carriage latch or spring issues:

  • Ensure the latch that holds the cartridges is fully closed and not obstructed.
  • If the latch feels loose or doesn’t close securely, gently press it down until it locks.

Run the Diagnose & Fix tool:

Try a hard reset if the error persists:

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If the message still appears, we can explore sensor calibration or firmware refresh options next. You're doing everything right by staying persistent and methodical.
