HP OfficeJet 4650 All-in-One Printer

OfficeJet 4650 suddenly will not power on. Tried several functioning outlets, bought a new power cord, no luck.  Anything else to try?    Thanks

Hi @MeredithM2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear your HP OfficeJet 4650 won't power on. You've already tried the most common fixes (outlet testing and new power cord), so let's go through a few final troubleshooting steps to confirm if the issue is with the printer itself or the power supply.

1. Perform a Hard Reset (Basic Discharge)

This ensures no residual power is blocking startup:

  • Unplug the power cable from the printer and the wall
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Press and hold the Power button on the printer for 15 seconds
  • Plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet (no power strip or surge protector)
  • Try turning the printer on

Use only the original HP power adapter or a verified compatible one with output: 32V, 0.625A / 16V, 0.625A (some use dual voltage).

2. Check the Power Module Light

If your power cable includes a power brick (adapter):

  • Plug the adapter into the wall, without the printer
  • Check for any LED lights on the adapter (if present)
    • No light? – The adapter is likely faulty, even if new
    • Light present? – Proceed to the next step

3. Check for Signs of Life

  • Look/listen closely for any sounds, fan whir, or flicker of light from the display when pressing the power button
  • No response at all? → Internal hardware failure is likely

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for this.  I tried your suggestions but nothing worked.  However, this time I noticed the display panel on the front flashed briefly when I plugged the cord into the wall.   Nothing after that though, unfortunately.

Hi @MeredithM2,

Thank you for letting me know. Sorry to hear that you still have trouble.

Please disconnect the printer from the wall outlet and remove the Cartridges from the printer, and then try to perform a hard reset without the cartridges. When the printer turns on, try inserting the cartridges and check.

Do try and keep me posted on how it goes

I hope this helps.

Hi - thank you for this.  Unfortunately, I can't remove the cartridges, as they're inaccessible (under a plastic piece on the right) with the power off & I'm not able to move them.  The screen still flashes briefly when first plugged in, otherwise no signs of life.
