Office Jet 6950

I purchased a 6950 in Germany which uses 903 ink cartridges.  We moved back to the US and HP Smart specified 902 ink cartridges.  I purchased HP original 902/902XL cartridges which are now giving "incompatible cartridge" errors.  

 

Besides trashing a perfectly good printer and wasting a lot of money on HP ink cartridges, do I have any options?

 

Firmware is MJM2CN2025AR.
