OfficeJet Pro 8600 Power Light Blinks Touch Pad Non-Responsive

OfficeJet Pro 8600

I have had to do a hard reset of my printer by unplugging it to get the printer to work again. After about a day, the power light in the power switch blinks slowly but is non-responsive. I cannot turn it on or off by the power switch. The touch pad is  blank and black, also non-responsive. I have to do a hard reset by unplugging the printer to get it to work again.

This is a known problem, since 2018, where HP Support sends a private message on how to reset the printer.

Please send instructions on how to do the proper reset to solve this problem.

Note: I asked this question in June, as user Edgear, and got no response.

I don't think the email associated with that account is correct.

I created a new user account to attempt to get help from HP.

@00EFJones, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand the printer becomes unresponsive and you have already tried hard reset. Let us perform a factory reset on the printer to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Further diagnostics with the HP support Tech found a solution.

First confirm that sleep mode works while NOT connected to a network.

After a period of inactivity the display will go dark and the power light will toggle between dim and bright glow.

If you tap the display it should wake from sleep mode and you should be able to scroll the display.

If sleep mode works while disconnected from the network,  the problem could be with how Sleep Mode interacts with communications.

Sleep mode problems can be fixed by forcing IPv4 support only and specifying a static IP address.

Along with the semi-full reset, IPv4 and static IP address fixed the printer problem
