HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One Printer

Hi, my power briefly went out last night and when I checked my printer this morning, the display showed a loading bar that seemed to be stuck at 90%. I tried powering off the printer, however, the power button isn't working, I have clicked and held down the power button. The last of my troubleshooting knowledge led me to unplugging and plugging back in the printer, yet this just brought me back to the same, 90% loading bar. Please let me know if there are any ways to get the printer back fully booted.

Hi @Thomas-Kelley,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

When your HP Officejet Pro 8610 E-All-In-One Printer gets stuck at 90% on the loading bar and doesn't respond to the power button, it can be quite frustrating. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve this issue:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

Unplug the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.

Wait for 60 Seconds:

  • Allow the printer to sit without power for at least 60 seconds to clear any residual power.

Reconnect the Power Cord:

  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first and then into the printer.

Power On the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn on the printer and check if it passes the loading screen.

Step 2: Reset the Power Module

Disconnect All Cables:

  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Remove any other cables (e.g., USB or Ethernet) connected to the printer.

Wait and Reconnect:

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet directly (avoid using a power strip or surge protector).

Power On the Printer:

  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Step 3: Check for Firmware Recovery Mode

Power Off and On:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.

Press and Hold Button Combination:

  • While holding down the power button, reconnect the power cord.
  • Continue holding the power button until the display shows any change (e.g., a different screen or prompt).

Follow On-Screen Instructions:

  • If the printer enters firmware recovery mode, follow the on-screen instructions to restore or update the firmware.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Thomas-Kelley,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Step 4: Perform a Semi-Full Reset

Unplug the Printer:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.

Access Internal Reset:

  • With the power cord unplugged, press and hold the "Resume" button (the button with a paper icon) and reconnect the power cord while holding the button.
  • Release the "Resume" button after 10-20 seconds.

Check for Reset:

  • Power on the printer and see if it bypasses the loading screen.

Step 5: Firmware Update via USB

Download Firmware:

  • Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your HP Officejet Pro 8610.

Prepare USB Drive:

  • Copy the firmware file to a USB drive.

Connect USB Drive to Printer:

  • With the printer off, insert the USB drive into the USB port on the printer.

Power On and Update:

  • Power on the printer and follow any prompts to update the firmware from the USB drive.

If none of the above steps work, it's time to contact HP Phone Support. There could be an internal issue that requires repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
