HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

After a power outage, my OJ Pro 9018/9010 printer is stuck in an unresponsive state, displaying a green screen w/ white "1 2 3 4 5" numbers displayed. I've tried unplugging it for several minutes & re-plugging in directly to an outlet. I've tried unplugging for minutes & additionally holding the power button for 30+ seconds, releasing the pwr button & plugging in. I've also tried unplugging  for minutes, then holding the power button for >30s, then plugging in while holding the pwr button. All attempts still result in the original display. FYI, after plugging in, if the power button is held, the display seems to cycle  from the green screen to a blank screen & back to the green screen, over & over. I've previously always used the Ethernet port for accessing the printer, but since I had no success w/ the earlier approaches, I tried disconnecting Ethernet & directly connecting to a PC via USB. The PC beeps like the USB is enumerating, but I'm still unable to access the printer using HP Smart.

From what I've read on the Community support site, there may have been a firmware update in progress when the power outage occurred, corrupting the printer's firmware. I downloaded the firmware update tool from the product support page, but it also seems unable to 'find' the printer, either via Ethernet or USB.

Can anyone help?

@BROWN260, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It does sound like your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 printer may have experienced a firmware corruption due to the power outage, especially since it's stuck on a green screen with "12345" and is unresponsive to standard resets.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to attempt firmware recovery:

Use HP Firmware Recovery Tool via USB

Since the printer is enumerating via USB (your PC beeps), try the following:

  • Download the HP Firmware Recovery Tool from the official HP support page: HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 Drivers & Firmware
  • Look for the Firmware section and download the latest firmware update utility.
  • Important: Use a Windows PC and connect the printer directly via USB (no hubs or docks).
  • Run the firmware tool. If the printer is detected, proceed with the update.

If Printer Is Not Detected

Try forcing the printer into recovery mode:

  • Unplug the printer.
  • Press and hold the power button.
  • While holding it, plug the power cord back in.
  • Continue holding the power button for 10–15 seconds.
  • Release and observe if the screen changes or the firmware tool now detects the printer.

Repeat this a couple of times if needed.

If none of the above works, then, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support
(Select the country from the dropdown menu and enter the city name or pincode)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
