OfficeJet Pro 9730e causing Photoshop 2025 to crash when printing

We just bought an OfficeJet Pro 7930e for use in our department at work. We needed a smaller printer for printing 8x10 and smaller photos and occasional small project runs. Unfortunately, every time I try to print to the 9730e from Photoshop 2025 or the latest Photoshop Beta, Photoshop crashes. 

I can print to it from Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Framemaker and Adobe Acrobat Pro just fine. 

I can also print from Photoshop to our large HP T2600 as well as our department BizHub C650i with no issues. 

Could this be a driver issue? Firmware issue? I downloaded the HP software during setup, so I assume it would have been the latest version, correct? Trying to correct this before getting IT involved.  

PC is an HP Z4 workstation, 4.0GB Xeon processor, 128GB RAM, latest Windows 11 update.

Driver Issue?

Maybe -- From your description, it sounds like you have installed the full driver printer software.

If not -- OR, if the software was installed and then possibly clobbered by a later Windows Update -

The full driver can be (re)installed.

What else?

Check that the full driver is installed and Printer Properties is pointed to (selected as) the HP Driver and not the IPP / Microsoft Driver.  

Next,

Check whether you have control over which printer is assigned as the Default Printer.

Generic instructions - Windows - Reinstall Printer Software

If you have not done so,

• Run Windows Updates (assuming a supported version of Windows) – If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in.
• Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features OR from Settings > Apps > Installed Apps (Windows 11). 

Reminder

• Installed Apps >> HP App and the full driver printer software are different animals (not the same thing).  
• The HP App / HP Smart need not be uninstalled when / if the full driver is installed, uninstalled, managed.

After the printer software is uninstalled --

• Restart the computer and log in
• Download / Save the full driver printer software installation package
• Install the Full Feature Software

• Install the HP Universal Scan Software
• Restart the computer and log in

Containers, Shortcuts on the Desktop

            What about HP Scan?

Once installed, the full driver printer software will have added one of two "container" shortcuts on the Desktop:

• Printer Assistant - named for the printer model

OR

On newer printers and when the new full driver printer software no longer supports the Printer Assistant:

• Scan Assistant - named for itself

Next,

The full driver printer software, once installed, will have added a shortcut icon for HP Scan. 

The shortcut for HP Scan that is part of the full driver might be named for the printer model.

HP Universal Scan Software - Optional

Separately -- Supported on this printer and Windows 11

Installation of the HP Universal Scan Software adds an "HP Scan" self-named shortcut icon to the Desktop.

NOTE

If you have installed the full driver printer software, you do not need to install HP Universal Scan -- the version of HP Scan that installs with the software for this printer is a functional match to the HP Universal Software.

That said, if you can't stand it, the system will tolerate installing both the full driver and the HP Universal Scan software.

When the software is installed, HP Universal Scan Software adds a self-named HP Scan software shortcut to the Desktop.

Note

Where supported, HPUSS can be installed as standalone or installed after the full feature / full solution printer software.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.
