I keep getting the error code 71.02.4A. I’ve turned the printer off and on. I’ve moved the print cartridge carrier manually and reset all the cartridges. Any suggestions?

Hi @cjcook,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting an error code 71.02.4A on an HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 typically relates to a mechanical problem within the printer, often linked to the carriage assembly or paper path. Here's a step-by-step guide to address the issue:

1. Check for Obstructions

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer's access door and inspect the carriage path and paper feed area for any debris, bits of paper, or foreign objects that might obstruct the movement of the carriage or rollers.
  • Gently move the carriage assembly to ensure it moves smoothly without resistance.

2. Inspect the Cartridges

  • Remove all ink cartridges and examine them for any visible damage or ink leakage.
  • Ensure the cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and are seated correctly in their slots.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers

  • Open the paper tray and inspect the rollers for dust or dirt.
  • Use a clean, lint-free cloth dampened with water to gently clean the rollers.
  • Allow the rollers to dry completely before reinserting the tray.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power cord and any USB or Ethernet cables while the printer is on.
  • Wait for at least 2-3 minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

5. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure the printer's firmware is up to date.
  • Visit the HP Support page and download the latest firmware for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8025.
  • Follow the instructions to update the firmware via the printer or through the HP Smart app.

6. Service the Printer

If the error persists after these steps, the issue might be caused by:

  • A failing carriage motor.
  • A damaged encoder strip (the thin, transparent strip behind the carriage).
  • Internal hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
