Please see the article here to save time:  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printing-Errors-or-Lights-Stuck-Print-Jobs/Officejet-4630-on-Windows-1...

I have nearly the exact same problem and have already taken the steps outlined by the reported and the HP agent in that article,  but the solution (hardcoding printer IP or DNS server) does not work for me.    I am in desperate need of other suggestions.

I do believe this is a MS / driver issue for the following reasons:

1) in June or July 2020 this Windows 10 PC stoppped printing with an error I cannot remember.  Printing is rarely done from this PC.  Something made me suspect IP address so I hard coded the Printer IP address and got the printer to work know it would bust again as soon as teh printer got a new IP address!

2) weeks later two Window 10 PCs at my parents house both quit printing.  While tring to fix that, a go0gle search identified a couple of new articles pointing th efinger at a recent Windows update.   I removed a single update (cant rememebr which one) from each of those two PCs and the problem went away.   I left those alone since Windows updates were turned on autmatic and I assumed Microsoft would corrent the issue in their next update.   While neiter of those two PCS print often either, I have not heard from my parents that they are having any additional trouble printing.

The article I referenced above is from 2019 though.   So the underlying issue there could not have been caused by Windows updates in 2020!

Again, any help here would be greatly appreciated.  I've got 6 hours in this today already and am nowhere.   So depsrate I've been on hold with MS support for over two hours!

I should reiterate that the printer is bahaving exactly the same as it did for the author of the referenced post:

  • All tools and diagnostics report the same thing,
  • two other computers on same network running Windows 7 (yuck!) still print fine!
  • corrent drivers uninstaleld, reinstalled multiple times
  • printer removed from controll panel multiple times
  • multiple reboots

Im not really interested in hardcoding the IP address but will if I have to.   Also not interested in hardcoding the DNS server if not absolutley necessary, but that is more likely not to change so I will do that if someone could make that work for me!!!

I would like to help

I suggest you uninstall the printer driver from root level and download the full feature software

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and download the full feature software Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL49503/mp-120038-6/OJ4630_198.exe  and follow the onscreen instructions

Thank you

Thanks for responding!   I had about given up on the printer/combination.  "Printui.exe /s" was new to me after trying so many things so I was encouraged to follow each step completely even though I have removed/uninstalled and reinstalled so many times already.  That program did identify and remove a number of HP printer packages (including 4630 class, 4650 class, and HP PCL class).

After a reboot, the link to the new driver in your response didn't work, but I still had OJ4630.exe downloaded from another location on the HP Support site.  I reran that, rebooted, and brought up printer properties to print a test page.

Awe snap.  Same result.   printer immediately went to Error Printing status.

Happy to get more suggestions.   I think there is something wrong in the bowels of this PC that uninstalls aren't clearing!

Let's try reinstalling the printer using the Windows Built-In Driver

13.) Restart the computer and reinstall the printer driver using the Windows Built In driver and follow the onscreen Instructions

Thanks again for the additional suggestion.   I have tried the built-in driver many times with even less success (I think the result was a printer device added that said "no driver installed" or something similar)!

But I will do so again following these specific steps and the FAQ section in the link you provided.  I won't have access to the computer for another 4 hours and will update then.  (posting this now in case you see it and have other suggestions before logging off -> otherwise ball is in my court!)

Well I followed the steps to install the native Windows 10 driver as listed in the link you provided.  The installation identified the Wireless printer on the network, and added an icon to the list of Printers & Scanners.  The installation completed saying "Driver is unavailable."   The icon added in Printers and Scanners said the same thing beneath it.

(I think this is the same result as every other previous time I tried to use the generic windows driver.)

If I click on the icon to manage the device, it shows it as a scanner and lets me see the scanner properties,, but doesn't have anything for a printer.  So it appears it installed as a scanner and not a printer.

Nothing in the FAQs in the provided link mentions anything about "driver is unavailable.

Am I missing something when trying to use the default Widows printers drivers?  Seems particularly odd that Windows detects the device but does not install a driver for the printer?

Try assigning a Manual IP Address and check if you are able to print

1) Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.

2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.

3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.

4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)

5) Click Manual IP

6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.

7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.

Thanks, but same results!

(I had to reinstall the printer on my Windows 7 pc since the printer disappeared from the devices.  I kept the installed drivers and am still able to print from the Windows 7 machine.

What's next?
