Officejet 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My IJ 52mm stopped in the middle of a printout, displayed error 0x00829c98, and could not be turned off by its on-off switch.

I unplugged and replugged it, and it finished up the print job.  But now, when I try to copy something, the pages come out blank or only the final inch of the page I'm scanning reproduces.

Welcome to the HP support community.

Check the scanner bar functionality: partially lift the scanner lid, and then press the Copy button or icon. If the scanner light does not illuminate or move across the glass.

Meanwhile:-

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Here are the steps:- Click here

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

  1. Scanner bar works--and images can be scanned just fine
  2. Firmware is already up to date: VERPLSPP1N003.2025A.00
  3. HP Smart shows both cartridges as low, but not empty.
  4. Trying color copy of largely B&W material (mix of small documents and newspaper clips) yields faint, colored image--yellowish on first try, pink on subsequent ones.
  5. Trying B&W copy yields blank pages.
  6. I have printer listings for this machine, "HP OfficeJet 5200 series" and "HP OfficeJet 5200 series (7F84B9)"; tried printing on both a document with black, red, green, blue, yellow, and purple type.
    1. Printing from the first printer listing output blank paper.
    2. In printing from the 7F84B9 listing, only the red, blue, and purple type is reproduced,  with red and purple in a reasonably strong purple and blue in a washed-out purple

This suggests to me that the black cartridge is empty and some colors in the multi-color cartridge are depleted--but. . .

Don't know if my prior reply got posted.  Firmware is up to date.  Scans OK.  black-and-white printing or copying produces blank pages. Printing from colored originals reproduces only magenta. Presumably ink is depleted--but if so, why don't I get a warning of this, as I have from older, cheaper, HP inkjets over the past 5-10 years?

Also, why do I show this as two printers, both listed as OfficeJet 5200, but one with (7F84B9) appended? Do I need both? Which should I keep and how do I delete the other?

Also, what is warranty status of this printer? It was purchased in February or March, but the owner went into hospital mid-March and died, so the printer sat unused until about 3 weeks ago, when my Canon got troublesome.

This might require one on one interaction to fix the issue.

I request you to talk to HP support.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.

  1. Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true
  2. Select the country.
  3. Enter the serial of your device.
  4. Select the country from the drop-down.
  5. Click on "Show Options".
  6. Fill the web-form. A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

Cheers.
