Microsoft Windows 11

Have trying all suggested list for this issue and the printer still presents the same error. Also, got a new printhead and still the error. So, it doesn't seem to be even a issue with the printhead. Any suggestion?

Hi @Capt2000,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 8620 is still showing a "Missing or Failed Printhead" error after replacing the printhead, try the following steps.

Check the Carriage Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printhead access area and remove the printhead.
  • Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the carriage with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer while it’s on.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. You can download the latest version from the HP support website.

Use Original HP Cartridges:

  • Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party cartridges can sometimes cause this error.

Inspect the Carriage Path:

  • Check for any obstructions or debris in the carriage path that might prevent the printhead from moving freely.

Check the Printer’s Internal Cables:

  • Carefully check the ribbon cables connected to the printhead for any signs of damage or loose connections.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
