My printer is completely dead. I've had it for a little over a year, just spent $100 on new ink, and right out of warranty it stops working. Nothing is on, no lights, nothing. Did everything they suggest on the support site (check outlet, change power cord). It's been really hard to get anywhere with HP, needless to say I'm not very inclined to stick with the brand. Any suggestions?

@jonarol Lets start with power reset as per HP standards, here's how we recommend doing it:

  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    • NOTE:
    • HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Try to turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

If the issue persists, please upgrade the printer firmware:

If none of the above works, you may want to get the device repaired/replaced, and If you have an HP authorized service center near by, you should be able to take it to them and have it checked,

Thanks for your suggestions to turn it on, very helpful on a printer which has the problem of not turning on. As I said in my post: it does nothing at all.

As stated by the other reply, your solution has no value.  You start with turn your printer on.  Obviously, the entire thread is in regard to a printer that won't turn on.  I think what we're looking for is a solution about an internal reset procedure; perhaps a inline fuse that is blown or needs to be reset; or a way to half split the problem to the power supply or logic board once the cord is known t be good.

@jonarol @dcaudle my bad, I seemed to have added extra steps, although, I've updated the same, please go through the steps again and if it doesn't work, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

I was contacted through private messages by HP to offer a solution in the form of a coupon for 120$ which I thought was nice. Unfortunately I haven't heard back in weeks...
