I only get the error when the yellow ink cartridge is in. When I take it out-no error. The problem is I can't print. I have genuine HP cartridges. Googled all the things, watched videos, read the forums, cleaned the printer head, and still nothing.

@JAOSNO, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you've encountered an ink system failure due to the yellow cartridge in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Turn the printer back on to complete the reset process.

Check and Replace the Yellow Ink Cartridge:

  • Open the cartridge access door by slipping your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer and pulling it forward.
  • Wait for the carriage to move to the left and stop.
  • Push in on the front of the yellow ink cartridge to release it, and then pull it toward you to remove it.
  • Inspect the cartridge for any adhesive residues or damage. If it appears defective, replace it with a new, genuine HP ink cartridge.
  • Slide the new yellow ink cartridge into its slot until it locks into place, ensuring the letter on the cartridge matches the letter on the slot.

Clean the Printhead:

  • On the printer control panel, touch the setup icon, and then touch "Tools."
  • Touch "Clean Printhead" to initiate the cleaning process.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the internet.
  • From the printer control panel, touch the "ePrint" icon.
  • Touch "Settings," then "Printer Update" to check for available updates.

Print a Print Quality Report:

  • Load plain white paper into the input tray.
  • Touch "Setup" on the control panel, then "Print Reports" and "Print Quality Report" to check for any inconsistencies.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
