Hi @TYNYC ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer:

Reset the Printer Again:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn on the printer.

Check the Cartridge and Cartridge Slot:

  • Remove the black ink cartridge from the printer.
  • Inspect the cartridge for any damage or packaging materials that might still be attached.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge.
  • Check the cartridge slot inside the printer for any debris or damage.
  • Reinsert the black ink cartridge securely into its slot.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your printer firmware is up-to-date. You can download the latest firmware from the HP support website.
  • Connect your printer to your computer via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Print and Scan Doctor and check for firmware updates. HP Print and Scan Doctor

Clean the Printhead:

  • From the printer control panel, navigate to the Tools or Printer Maintenance menu.
  • Select the option to clean the printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings:

  • This step will reset all settings to factory defaults.
  • From the printer control panel, navigate to the Setup menu.
  • Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
  • Select Restore or Restore Defaults, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check for Obstructions or Jams:

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing the issue.
  • Remove any paper or debris found inside the printer.

Try a Different Cartridge:

  • If possible, try using another new black 950XL cartridge. It's possible that the cartridge you have is defective.
