Hi @BADNANA

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A solid amber light on your HP Envy 6400e typically means the printer is in an error state—often related to cartridge recognition, paper feed, or a setup issue. Let’s walk through a few steps to clear the light and restore printing.

Step-by-Step: Clear Solid Amber Light on HP Envy 6400e

1. Check for Cartridge Issues

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove both cartridges and inspect for:
    • Protective tape still attached
    • Ink buildup or debris on copper contacts
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly until they click.
  • Close the door and wait for initialization.

Improperly seated or unrecognized cartridges can trigger the amber light.

2. Perform a Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on.

This clears temporary faults and resets the internal controller.

3. Check Paper Tray and Path

  • Remove all paper from the input tray.
  • Reload with clean, properly aligned sheets.
  • Open the rear access door and check for any jammed paper.
  • Close all doors securely.

Paper misfeeds or tray misalignment can cause the printer to halt with an amber light.

4. Use the HP App to Check Status

  • Open the HP App on your Windows PC or mobile device.
  • Select your printer > Printer Settings > Reports or Status.
  • Look for any alerts such as:
    • Cartridge Error
    • Paper Jam
    • Setup Incomplete

The app often provides more specific error codes than the control panel.

5. Run Printhead Cleaning (If Available)

  • In the HP App, go to Settings > Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
  • Run the cleaning cycle and wait for completion.

This can resolve ink flow issues that may trigger error states.

6. Check for Firmware Update

Visit: HP Envy 6400e Firmware and Drivers

Select your operating system and install the latest firmware.

Firmware updates improve error handling and device stability.

If the amber light remains solid after these steps, try printing a Printer Status Report from the HP App or by pressing the Information button on the printer. Let me know what message appears—this will help pinpoint the cause.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore full functionality.
