I have an HP Envy 5530 printer which keeps giving me an incompatible cartridge warning/  The cartridge is a brand new 61xl cartridge.  I have gone through all the steps provided by the virtual assistant which did not work.

@Terryloq, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Receiving an incompatible cartridge warning on your HP Envy 5530 printer can be frustrating, especially after you've followed troubleshooting steps without success. Here are some additional steps you can try:

Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Double-check that the cartridge you are using is indeed compatible with the HP Envy 5530 printer. The 61XL cartridge is generally compatible with this printer model, but make sure it is an original HP cartridge and not a remanufactured or refilled one.

Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that all protective tapes or covers have been removed from the cartridge before installation. Sometimes tape remains over the electrical contacts, causing the printer not to recognize the cartridge.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridge.
  • Examine the cartridge to locate the small gold-colored contacts.
  • Wipe these contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Allow the contacts to dry, then reinsert the cartridge into the printer.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait about 10 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model to find any available firmware updates.

Try a Different Cartridge: If possible, try using another new cartridge to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
