I tried to reset my printer because I haven’t used it in a while and it wouldn’t connect to WiFi or pop up in my hp app. So I held the power and cancel button for 15seconds to reset it. After that the power button is blinking white, the cancel and information button is blinking orange. I checked for paper jam, I unplugged it from the wall and back and waited then plugged it back in. I held the cancel and power button for 5 seconds. I did everything I seen online and nothing is working it is still blinking those lights.

@Brittbritt31, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

Based on your description, power button blinking white, and cancel + information buttons blinking orange your HP DeskJet printer is likely in an error state following the reset. Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve it:

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and ensure both cartridges are properly seated.
  • Remove and reinsert each cartridge to ensure good contact.
  • Clean the copper contacts gently with a lint-free cloth.
  • If either cartridge is missing, damaged, or incompatible, the printer will blink orange.
  • Replace any faulty cartridges if needed.

Reset the Printer Properly

Sometimes a partial reset can leave the printer in an unstable state. Try this full reset:

  • With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  • Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Reconnect the cord to the printer and power it on.

This clears most internal errors.

Check for Paper Jam or Carriage Jam

  • Open all access doors and inspect for any stuck paper or obstructions.
  • Move the cartridge carriage gently to ensure it’s not stuck.
  • If you see an E3 or E4 error, it indicates a jam.

Reconnect to Wi-Fi

Since the printer isn’t showing up in the HP Smart app:

  • Press and hold the Wireless button until it starts blinking.
  • Open the HP Smart app, remove the printer if it’s listed.
  • Re-add the printer using Auto Wireless Connect or WPS.

Final Tip

If the issue persists after these steps, try restoring factory defaults again:

  • Press and hold Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • Wait for the lights to stabilize, then retry setup via HP Smart.
