HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer

Set up to print say 50 pages. After first page orange light comes on. Once I press that it usually continues to complete the printing. Though the pathetic amount of paper I can put in means I can’t really leave it.

Hi @Jenphsc

Welcome to the HP support community. It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2710e All-in-One Printer is experiencing a recurring issue where the orange warning light comes on after printing the first page, causing you to manually reset it in order for the printing to continue. This is likely a sign of one of several possible issues, including paper handling, printer settings, or even a software glitch.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Check for Paper Jam or Obstructions

  • Open the printer and check for any paper jams or small bits of paper stuck inside, particularly near the paper feed area or rollers.
  • Inspect the paper tray and make sure it is properly aligned and inserted into the printer. If the paper tray is not seated correctly, it may cause issues with paper feeding.
  • Clear any debris that could be blocking the paper path.

2. Check Paper Size and Type

  • Ensure that the paper size in the paper tray matches the size selected in the printer’s settings.
  • Use standard, unwrinkled paper that is not too thick or too thin. Thick or glossy paper can sometimes cause feeding problems, especially in budget printers like the DeskJet 2710e.
  • Make sure the paper is not overloaded in the tray, as overloading can prevent the printer from grabbing paper correctly. Ideally, try to print no more than 10-20 sheets at a time to prevent this from happening.

3. Ensure the Paper Feed Is Properly Adjusted

  • When loading the paper tray, make sure the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper. If the paper isn't aligned properly, the printer may struggle to feed the paper correctly.
  • Try adjusting the paper guides slightly, as they can be too tight or too loose, causing paper feed issues.

4. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Open the printer to check the ink cartridges. Make sure they are properly installed and clicked into place.
  • Clean the cartridge contacts gently with a soft cloth, as dirt or ink residue can sometimes cause issues with printing.
  • Check if any low ink warning is present. If your ink levels are low, this could also cause printing interruptions, although this usually triggers a different warning light.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Turn the printer off and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1 minute.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on again.

This can help clear any internal issues causing the orange light to appear.

6. Firmware and Driver Updates

Outdated printer firmware or drivers can also cause problems with printing:

  • Check for firmware updates for your HP DeskJet 2710e by visiting the HP Support website or using the HP Smart app (available on mobile devices).
  • If you are using a computer to print, update the printer drivers to the latest version via the HP website or through the HP Smart app.

7. Examine the Orange Light for Error Codes

  • If the light flashes in a specific pattern, it might be worth looking it up on the HP website to diagnose the issue.

8. Check Printer Settings

  • Verify that the print queue is not backed up with pending jobs.
  • If you are printing a large document (like 50 pages), try breaking it up into smaller batches to see if the issue occurs after a certain number of pages.
  • Try printing directly from the printer's control panel (if possible) to check if the issue is specific to your device or the printer itself.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
