HP ENVY Inspire 7255e All-in-One Printer

Envy 7200   constantly sezs, "The printer is out of paper"

The printer has been re-installed, reset, and played with many times.  The paper supply is endlessly checked and adjusted.   Clean rollers or dirty rollers still it sezs, 'out of paper'.  We've read all the suggested 'fixes' ( they all read the same, don't they )  No one at HP is brave enough to say "We don't know the reason, just live with it".  Sad, really sad. . . .

Hi @RedOctopus,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The persistent "Out of Paper" error on your HP ENVY Inspire 7255e All-in-One printer despite multiple troubleshooting attempts can be frustrating, especially after trying common fixes like resetting, reinstalling, and adjusting the paper. This issue could be caused by a range of factors beyond basic roller cleaning and paper alignment.

Here are some potential advanced solutions you could try.

  • Inspect the Paper Sensor: The "Out of Paper" error may be due to a malfunctioning paper sensor. Sometimes the sensor can be misaligned or obstructed. You can try using compressed air to clear any dust from the sensor.
  • Try Different Paper: Use a different type or brand of paper. Printers sometimes have difficulty recognizing certain types of paper, especially if they are slightly too thick or slick. Make sure you are using plain, standard paper that fits the printer's specifications.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware bugs can cause hardware issues like false paper feed errors. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or on the HP website.
  • Reset Paper Settings: Go into the printer settings menu (through the control panel or your computer) and reset the paper settings to default. Also, make sure the paper size, type, and source are properly configured in both the printer and the print dialogue of your computer.
  • Adjust Paper Tray Guides: Ensure the paper guides in the tray are not too tight. Overly tight paper guides can cause the paper to get stuck and not feed properly, leading to a false "Out of Paper" error.
  • Manual Paper Feed: Try manually feeding a sheet of paper through the printer to see if the printer recognizes it. This may clear any mechanical blockage or reset the sensor.
  • Perform a Hard Reset: Unplug the printer while it's on, wait 60 seconds, and then plug it back in. A hard reset can clear any residual errors or settings that could be causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
