I am writing to report an ongoing issue with my HP printer that has significantly impacted my work. Each time I enter a print job—whether it's a single document or a set number of copies—the printer consistently overprints, producing far more copies than requested. This issue occurs almost every time I use the device.
As a result of this malfunction, I am now incurring costs for all the excess pages being printed. This has become a financial burden, and I am seeking a resolution as soon as possible.
Please advise on the next steps. I would appreciate guidance on troubleshooting this issue or arranging for a repair or replacement if necessary. I can provide the printer’s serial number and model information upon request.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Hi @ashleyh615,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check Print Settings: Ensure that the number of copies is set correctly in the print dialog. Sometimes, the settings might be inadvertently changed.
- Go to your print dialog on your computer.
- Verify that the number of copies is set to the intended amount.
Update Printer Firmware and Drivers: Make sure your printer's firmware and drivers are up to date. Outdated firmware or drivers can cause issues with printing.
- Visit HP's support page and locate your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware and drivers.
Reset Printer Settings: Sometimes resetting the printer to its default settings can resolve unexpected issues.
- On your printer, go to the settings menu.
- Find the option to restore factory settings and perform the reset.
Check for Software or App Issues: If you are using a specific software application to print, ensure it is up to date and doesn't have any known bugs causing this issue. You can also try printing from a different application to see if the problem persists.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP offers a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can diagnose and fix many printing issues.
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website.
- Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix any issues.
I hope this helps.
