If your HP Deskjet 2542 prints MS Office documents but not PDF or web documents, the issue is likely software-related. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check the Default Printer:
- Make sure your HP Deskjet 2542 is set as the default printer:
- Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Set as default printer.
- Mac: Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and ensure your printer is selected.
2. Try a Different PDF Viewer:
- If you are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, try a different viewer like Microsoft Edge or Foxit Reader to print the PDF.
- In Adobe Acrobat Reader:
- Open the PDF and go to File > Print.
- Click Advanced, check Print as Image, and try printing again.
3. Update or Reinstall the Printer Driver:
- Download and install the latest driver from HP's official support page.
- Uninstall the printer:
- Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Remove device.
- Restart your PC and reinstall the driver.
4. Use HP Smart or HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- HP Smart App: Try printing using the HP Smart app instead of the default print option.
- HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to detect and fix issues.
5. Check Browser Print Settings (for Web Pages):
- If web pages won’t print, try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) and use Ctrl + P to print.
- Ensure the correct printer is selected in the print settings.
