Check Printer Settings

  • Open Printer Properties:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click on HP Envy 4450 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Check Color Settings:
    • In the Printing Preferences window, check under the Color tab.
    • Ensure the Color option is selected (not Black & White or Grayscale).
    • Click Apply and OK to save changes.

Update Printer Drivers

  • Check for Driver Updates:
    • Open the Device Manager (press Win + X > select Device Manager).
    • Expand the Printers section and right-click on your HP printer.
    • Select Update Driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
  • Download Latest Drivers from HP Website:
    • Visit the HP Support website.
    • Search for your printer model (HP Envy 4450).
    • Download and install the latest drivers for Windows 11.

Printer Software

  • Reinstall HP Printer Software:
    • Sometimes, issues with printing preferences can stem from the software installation. Uninstall the printer software from Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Reboot the system and reinstall the latest HP software package from the official website.

Check for Windows 11 Updates

  • Update Windows 11:

Reset Printer Settings

  • Reset Printer Defaults:
    • Open Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click your HP Envy 4450 and select Printer Properties.
    • In the Advanced tab, click Print directly to the printer.
    • Go to the Device Settings tab and click on Restore Defaults.

Check for Print Spooler Issues

  • Restart Print Spooler Service:
    • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
    • Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.
    • Try printing again.

Check for Paper Type Settings

  • Paper Type Settings:
    • In the Printing Preferences window, make sure that the Paper Type setting is correct for your print job (e.g., plain paper for standard printing, photo paper for photos).
    • Sometimes, using the wrong paper type can force black and white printing.

Printer Test

  • Test Print:
    • From Printers & Scanners, select your HP Envy 4450 and click on Manage > Print Test Page.
    • Check if the issue persists on the test page.

Perform Printer Diagnostic

  • Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts to troubleshoot and fix issues.
