Hi @HNB2 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP Laser MFP 1188fnw printer is showing a "Printer Not Connected" error, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Check Physical Connections:
- Ensure that the printer is properly plugged into a power source and that the power cable is securely connected.
- If you're using a USB connection, verify that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable if possible.
- For network connections, make sure the Ethernet cable is properly connected if you're using a wired connection.
Verify Printer Status:
- Check if the printer has any error lights or messages on the control panel that might indicate an issue.
Restart Devices:
- Power off the printer and your computer. Wait for a minute, then turn them back on.
- Restart your router or modem if you're using a network connection.
Check Printer Settings:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the network settings to ensure the printer is connected to the correct network if using Wi-Fi.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer and then reinstall the new driver.
Check Printer Status on Computer:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on your computer.
- Select your printer and click Manage. Check if the printer is set as the default printer and if there are any issues shown.
Run the Printer Troubleshooter:
- On Windows, go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Printer, and run the troubleshooter.
Ensure Printer is Online:
- In the Printers & scanners section, make sure the printer is set to "Use Printer Offline" if it's an option.
