@TERRYICEMAN, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 displays an error message that the printer head appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Solution 1: Use Genuine HP Cartridges

HP recommends using genuine HP ink or toner supplies. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may cause errors. To check the authenticity of your cartridges, visit HP anti-counterfeit.

Solution 2: Check the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer and pull to open the cartridge access door.

 Open the cartridge access door

  • Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  • Push in on the front of the cartridge to release it and pull it towards you to remove it from its slot

. Remove the cartridge from its slot

  • Inspect the printhead and cartridges for damage or incorrect installation.
  • If the printhead or cartridges appear damaged, replace them with new ones.
  • Close the cartridge access door and restart the printer.

Solution 3: Clean the Printhead

  1. Load plain white paper into the tray.
  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, then touch the Setup icon (Setup icon).
  3. Swipe to scroll to Tools and touch Tools.
  4. Touch Clean Printhead. Follow the prompts to start the cleaning process.

Solution 4: Replace the Printhead

If the issue continues after cleaning the printhead, consider replacing the printhead:

  1. Ensure you have a new printhead assembly available.
  2. Access the HP Parts Store and search for your printhead number:
    • In Canada, Latin America, and United States, search for CR322A.
    • In Europe, Middle East, and Africa, search for CR324A.
