How do I get it offline ? I have turned it off & on many times with no results. I get this all the time. How do I prevent this from happening?

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer frequently goes offline, causing delays and frustration. Here’s how you can fix this issue and prevent it from happening again.
Restart Everything
- Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source for 1-2 minutes.
- Restart your computer and your Wi-Fi router (if it's a wireless printer).
- Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and try printing.
Set Printer to Online Manually
- On your Windows PC:
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers
- Right-click your HP printer and select See what’s printing
- Click Printer (top-left) and uncheck Use Printer Offline (if checked)
- On a Mac:
- Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners
- Click your HP printer and select Open Print Queue
- If there's a Resume button, click it
Check the Default Printer
- Windows:
- Go to Settings → Devices → Printers & Scanners
- Select your HP printer and click Set as Default
- Mac:
- In Printers & Scanners, make sure your HP printer is set as the default
Reinstall the Printer Drivers
- Go to HP’s website and download the latest driver for your printer
- Uninstall the printer from your computer, restart, and reinstall it using the downloaded driver
Disable SNMP (For Network Printers)
- If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, disabling SNMP may help:
- Windows:
- Go to Control Panel → Devices and Printers
- Right-click your printer → Printer Properties → Ports
- Select the port your printer is using, click Configure Port
- Uncheck "SNMP Status Enabled" and click OK
- Windows:

Assign a Static IP (For Network Printers)
If your printer is on Wi-Fi, it may keep changing its IP address, making it appear offline.
- Print a network configuration page from the printer menu
- Note the printer’s current IP address
- Open a web browser and type that IP address to access the printer settings
- Set a static IP address in the printer’s network settings
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
