Hi @JESSLAMPERT,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your printer displays a "check cartridge or check paper" error, it typically means there's an issue with either the ink cartridges or the paper feed. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed in the printer. Open the printer cover and inspect each cartridge to make sure they are seated correctly.
  • If any of the cartridges are empty or low on ink, replace them with new ones. Sometimes, low ink levels can trigger this error message.
  • Clean the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth to ensure good electrical contact.

Check Paper Feed:

  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Ensure that the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper stack to prevent misfeeds.
  • Check for any obstructions or debris in the paper path. Even small pieces of paper or debris can cause paper jams and trigger the error message.
  • If the paper is wrinkled, bent, or damaged, replace it with fresh, undamaged paper.

Restart Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.

Reset Printer:

  • Some printers have a reset option in the settings menu or a reset button on the control panel. Consult your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.

Update Firmware/Drivers:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates or driver updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware or drivers may resolve compatibility issues causing the error message.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
