Printer: Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M281fdw.
MacBook, OS Sonoma 14.5
After 20 yrs of using Epson I thought I would try HP, big regret. Since day one printing has been hit or miss. I truly never know if a print job will complete or the printer will quit. Now it has stopped printing. When I select print, it appears to start printing, the screen says printing document, makes noise like paper is feeding and the printer quits/crashes. Any help is greatly appreciated. I paid a lot of money for this laser/scanner and I will be putting it in the trash shortly.

Hi @FrankFL1,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand what you're experiencing with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer. It can be frustrating when a device doesn't work as expected, especially when you've invested in it.
Let's try some troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue:
- Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This simple step can sometimes resolve minor issues.
- Update Printer Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually find firmware updates on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs and improve printer performance. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check Printer Connections: Make sure that the printer is properly connected to your MacBook and that all cables are securely plugged in. Additionally, ensure that the printer is connected to a stable power source.
- Check Printer Settings: Double-check the printer settings on your MacBook to ensure that the correct printer is selected and that there are no print jobs stuck in the queue.
- Reset Printing System: On your MacBook, go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, right-click on the printer, and select "Reset printing system." This will remove all printers from your system, so you'll need to re-add your printer afterward.
- Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall the printer drivers from your MacBook and then reinstall them. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.
