I have a MacBook Air with MacOS Sonoma 14.5. my printer ran out of paper, and once I replaced it, it wouldn't let me print anymore. The wifi light is lit up and blue, and so is the orange circle with an i in the middle (solid orange, not blinking). I checked and there is no paper jam. The ink cartridges are also not low. Please help. Thank you.

Hi @GISELLE1294,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP printer won't print after replacing the paper, and the WiFi and orange lights are lit, follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
Step 1: Check for Error Messages
- Printer Display: Look at the printer display for any error messages or icons. The solid orange light with an "i" typically indicates an error or attention needed.
- Printer Software on Mac: Open the HP Smart app or HP Utility on your Mac to check for any error messages or notifications about the printer status.
Step 2: Reset the Printer
- Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
- Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait: Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug Back In: Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Step 3: Check Paper Settings
- Paper Tray: Ensure the paper is loaded correctly and that the paper guides are snug but not too tight against the paper stack.
- Paper Type and Size: Verify that the printer settings on your Mac match the type and size of paper you have loaded. This can be done in the print dialog when you send a print job.
Step 4: Clear Any Pending Print Jobs
- Open Printers & Scanners: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select Your Printer: Click on your HP printer from the list.
- Open Print Queue: Click Open Print Queue.
- Cancel All Jobs: Cancel all pending print jobs by selecting them and clicking the X or Delete button.
Step 5: Reconnect to WiFi
- Check WiFi Connection: Ensure your printer is still connected to the same WiFi network as your MacBook Air. The blue WiFi light being lit is a good sign, but you can also print a network configuration page from the printer to confirm the connection.
- Reconfigure WiFi (if needed): If necessary, reconfigure the WiFi settings on your printer using the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel.
Step 6: Restart Mac and Printer
- Restart MacBook Air: Restart your MacBook Air to ensure there are no software glitches.
- Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
Step 7: Update Printer Firmware and Drivers
- HP Support Website: Visit the HP support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
- Install Updates: Follow the instructions to download and install any available firmware updates.
- Update Drivers: Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Mac.
Step 8: Test Printing
- Print a Test Page: Try printing a test page directly from the printer's control panel or from the HP Smart app on your Mac.
- Print a Document: Open a document on your MacBook Air and try printing it to see if the issue is resolved.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
