Hi @melroy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you’re seeing a "There is a problem with the printer or ink system" message, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot.
Check for Error Messages: Look for any specific error codes or messages on your printer’s display or computer screen.
Turn Off and On: Power off the printer, unplug it from the wall, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the printer and clear errors.
Check Ink Cartridges:
- Open the printer and check if the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reinsert them to ensure a good connection.
- Check for any visible damage to the cartridges or any protective tape that may still be on them.
Clean the Contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Carefully remove the ink cartridges and use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
Check for Paper Jams: Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from HP’s official website.
- Consider uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers.
Perform a Printer Diagnostic: Many HP printers have built-in diagnostic tools. Check your printer’s manual or HP’s support site for instructions on how to run diagnostics.
Replace Ink Cartridges: If the issue persists and your ink cartridges are old or out of warranty, consider replacing them with new ones.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
