I have an HP 8030 series printer and everything was going smoothly until my power blinked on and off 2x. Now it won't stop jamming paper and gives me an error saying that the cartridge cannot move. I have checked for paper and cleared it, I've also tried to reset it and that didn't fix the issue either. It seems to get stuck 'under' the ink cartridges as it does START to print. Am I missing another thing to check? Is there anything else I can try? Thanks, in advance.

@cd26751,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the power outage may have caused a mechanical misalignment in your HP OfficeJet Pro 8030 series printer. Since you've already cleared any visible paper jams and tried resetting the printer, here are some additional steps you can try.

Check for Hidden Paper Jams

Even small paper scraps can cause issues.

  • Turn off and unplug the printer.
  • Remove the paper tray and any loaded paper.
  • Open the front cover and check under the printhead assembly for small bits of paper.
  • If possible, move the ink carriage manually to ensure nothing is obstructing it.

Check the Carriage Path & Clean the Rod

The ink carriage might be stuck or blocked.

  • With the printer off, gently move the carriage left and right (if it moves freely).
  • Look for obstructions like debris or dried ink buildup under the carriage.
  • Clean the metal rod the carriage moves on with a lint-free cloth and a little isopropyl alcohol.

Inspect and Reseat Ink Cartridges

A loose cartridge could block the carriage.

  • Remove the cartridges and check for any tape, damage, or debris.
  • Reinsert them firmly and close the cover.

Reset the Printer Again (Full Power Drain)

  • Unplug the printer while it’s turned on.
  • Remove the power cord from the wall.
  • Wait at least 2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Run Printer Diagnostics (If Accessible)

  • If the printer menu is accessible, check for a Carriage Stall or Paper Path test in the settings.

If the carriage still won’t move or jams, there might be an internal hardware fault due to the power outage.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
