Hi @Soobeetah_12,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're getting a "paper jam" error but there’s no visible jammed paper, it might be caused by a few different issues such as misfeeds, dirty rollers, sensor malfunctions, or even software glitches. Here's a more focused troubleshooting guide to help you resolve the problem:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the printer and clear any minor software glitches that may be causing the false paper jam error.
2. Check for Small Debris or Paper Fragments
- Even though you don't see a jam, sometimes small paper fragments can get stuck inside the printer. These can trigger the "paper jam" error without being immediately visible.
- Open the printer cover and inspect both the paper path and paper tray carefully. Look for any small bits of torn paper or debris that might be causing the issue.
- If the printer has a rear access door, open it and check for any paper fragments inside.
3. Inspect and Clean the Rollers
- Dirty or worn-out rollers can sometimes misfeed paper or cause the printer to think there's a jam.
- Gently clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or rubbing alcohol. Clean both the feed rollers (at the paper tray) and the separator rollers (where the paper exits).
- Rollers can become sticky or dirty over time, leading to paper jams or misfeeds. Make sure they are completely clean and free from dust or ink residue.
4. Check the Paper Sensors
- Paper sensors in the printer detect the presence of paper, and if they’re dirty or malfunctioning, the printer might incorrectly display a paper jam error.
- Locate the sensors in the printer, which are usually small plastic switches or sensors located near the paper path. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean these sensors gently.
I hope this helps.
