Hi @Bmej,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is indicating a paper jam but there's no visible paper stuck inside, here are steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  • Turn off the printer: Completely power off the printer to prevent any damage or further jamming.
  • Inspect the paper path: Open all access doors and trays where paper passes through. Look carefully for any shreds of paper or debris that might be causing a sensor to detect a jam.
  • Check for loose paper: Sometimes a small piece of paper or debris can remain inside without being immediately visible. Gently remove any loose paper or debris that you find.
  • Reset the printer: After clearing any visible obstructions, close all doors and trays properly. Turn the printer back on and see if the error message persists.
  • Check paper condition: Ensure that the paper you are using is not curled, torn, or improperly loaded. Improperly loaded paper can cause sensors to misread and indicate a jam.
  • Clean rollers: Over time, paper dust and debris can accumulate on the rollers, leading to paper feeding issues. Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with water to clean the rollers.
  • Check for damaged parts: If the problem persists after these steps, there may be a mechanical issue such as a faulty sensor or a damaged roller.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve most false paper jam issues on your HP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
